ANNUAL INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE

Mark your calendar for THIS Saturday, July 3 @ 9:00 am to join the parade!  This is an 'all ages' event designed for entire families to celebrate our wonderful country.  Dress yourselves, your little ones, and your 'transportation' (bike, trike, stroller, scooter, wagon, etc) in patriotic Red, White & Blue.  Bring cold water and wear sunscreen. Children are invited too, but please supervise your kids for their safety.

Questions?  Email social2008@stonelakes.net   More details including location are in your newsletter from Maureen from late June.

FIREWORKS SHOW

The City of Southlake will present its 2010 "Stars and Stripes" event on Saturday, July 3 from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm at Town Square.  There will be live entertainment until 11:00 pm in Frank Cornish IV Park (by Brio's).  More detail are available here: www.starsandstripessouthlake.com

"YARD OF THE MONTH"

Your neighbor Claudene Blake has volunteered to act as head of the Yard of the Month Committee.  Her eye for balance, color, texture, and attractive presentation will be assets in this endeavor.  If you are interested in joining the committee to help decide which yard should win the title each month, please let Claudene know at yardofmonth@stonelakes.net

HOA Secretary Vivienne Reynolds has offered to help.  Email nominations or offers to volunteer to: yardofMonth@stonelakes.net

LOCAL CLOTHING DRIVE JULY 10

Now that the kids are finished with school, this is a good time to go through their closets and dressers to see what they have outgrown.  If you are interested in donating these items to charity, a nice option has been brought to my attention.

For the past 20 years, Southlake resident Dr. Gunnar West and his wife have made it their mission to provide essential items to children in dire situations in the Metroplex.  It all started when Dr. West learned that two of his patients, aged 6 and 7, were living in a box.  "SouthWest Kids" is a non-profit 501c3 charity that benefits abused, needy, and neglected kids in the Metroplex.  See their website: www.dallassouthwestkids.com.  The charity has no source of income or any paid employees. They depend on volunteers and donations. Last year's financial donations totaled just three hundred dollars.

Your tax-deductible donation can make a huge difference in the lives of these kids.  The clothing drive welcomes items like these:  New underwear, socks, and pillows, used clothing, coats, sheets, blankets, shoes in good condition, towels, and cash or check donations.  The kids also need toiletries and school supplies.  There will be a truck at Bicentennial Park from 9:00 am until 11:30 am on Saturday, July 10, and you can take your donations there that morning.  (Tax receipts are available at the truck.)

If this timing does not work for you, your neighbor Michelle Nolan is offering to stop by and pick up bagged or boxed donations from your front-door area BEFORE July 10; just call her to arrange it.  (Her number is in your newsletter dated June 30, 2010.)  Michelle will then take all the donations she has collected to the truck on July 10th

The clothes will be given to the children on July 24.  They will "shop" for free clothing so they have something to wear to school; they can get up to a large plastic bag full of clothes.  Anything you donate will be appreciated.  Contact Veronica Miranda, executive director of Southwest Kids at 214-330-7028 if you have any questions.

If you have local friends that you think may want to participate, would you please copy and paste this section of the newsletter into a new email message and send it to them?  Thank you.

MARGARITA PARTY A HIT!

Thanks to the Social Committee for putting together a laughter-filled evening on June 19.  Residents that attended the party had a great time relaxing and making new friends.

BUZZ WORD OF THE MONTH

WATER

Enjoy cooling off in a pool, drink enough water to stay hydrated, especially on long walks or jogs, and take water for your dog when you walk him (and plastic bags! ahem!!).

HOWEVER, be careful to limit your outdoor water use by taking your car to a professional car wash, and run your sprinklers ONLY between 6 pm and 10 am... and ONLY on your days:

EVEN addresses:  Wednesday and Saturday                           ODD addresses:    Thursday and Sunday

NEW POOL DIRECTOR

A big WELCOME goes out to Steve Wurth, our new Pool Director. You can reach Steve at pool2010@stonelakes.net

Kendall Goodman gave his time as the former director to make sure every area of the pools, decking, and building were in tip-top shape for your enjoyment.  Kendall deserves MANY THANKS for his dedication to all pool issues.  We are confident that Steve will continue in this diligent manner.

To review the rules, please click here.  Kelly Kozel is our volunteer contact for keys and pool-party reservations.  Thank you, Kelly, for helping our community!

ICE CREAM SOCIAL

This annual event at the pool was a fun celebration marking the end of school year. Quite a few Stone Lakes residents attended, and everyone had a good time.

Thanks to the Social Committee for organizing this community event!

GARAGE SALE

Our springtime neighborhood-wide garage sale event was a smash hit with shoppers!  With beautiful weather and lots of buyer-traffic, we had one of the busiest mornings ever.

Good, useable leftovers can be donated to Angel's Attic in Grapevine (817-251-9451).  They now have a warehouse near Dragon Stadium  (Continental & Kimball) where the donations can be taken:

Angels' Attic Donation Station -- 2211 E. Continental Blvd. -- Southlake -- Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Furniture can be arranged to be picked up on Fridays with an appointment by calling 817- 251-9451.

There is also a Goodwill drop site on Rte 26 in Colleyville, just across from the light at Pleasant Run/White Chapel Rd.

HELP ANIMAL RESCUE FOR FREE

There are so many animal lovers in Stone Lakes that the following should be of interest to most of you.

Please click here to visit the Animal Rescue Website and click on the purple rectangle in the top right section of the page.  This triggers a donation of food from pet-food manufacturers (and other advertisers) for neglected and abandoned animals.  You can click once EVERY DAY!  Please put the link above into your favorites and help them as often as you can.  It only takes a few seconds.  Thanks so much!

You can help spread the word by copying and pasting these three paragraphs and emailing them to several friends in your email address book.  It will only take a few minutes, yet it will make a real difference in the lives of helpless animals.

BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE

This group is active again, and we can expect a noticeable improvement in the appearance of the common areas, especially at both entrances.  Barbara King is leading the effort, and she welcomes your assistance.  Do you have an eye for landscaping or gardening?  Contact Barbara at Beautify@stonelakes.net

Teens can earn service hours for certain tasks such as spreading mulch and weeding flower beds.

CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUP                                     TOP

This group is open to Moms with kids of several ages; it is NOT limited to babies and toddlers.  The whole idea is to meet other mothers, get helpful tips, & make friends for yourself and for your children. If you do not have any children yet, but are expecting your first, come join us!  There is no fee for this program; it is an informal group for fun interaction with others 'in the same boat' as you.

We invite you to join the Stone Lakes Neighborhood Children's Playgroup.  The kids range in age from not-quite-born to newborn and up, and the moms enjoy it almost as much as the kids do.  We meet on Friday mornings, usually from 10:00 am until noon.  Our favorite places include local parks, playgrounds, each others' houses, and other kid-friendly spots. Some members come every week, some only on occasion.  We look forward to welcoming you to the group.

IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!   We also get together for Moms Night Out every month or two (without the kids!).

The location will vary each week, so if you are interested, please contact the coordinator
for the detailsLisa Chamberlain at PlayGroup@stonelakes.net. If you prefer, use her phone number, which is in your Stone Lakes Directory.

TENNIS AND BASKETBALL

Click for Detailed Tennis Court Rules & Basketball Court Rules

Electric rates have risen, so it is IMPORTANT to TURN OFF THE LIGHTS when everyone is finished using the courts.  The timer/control is north of the main court entry gate.  Also, for the preservation of our beautiful courts, LOCK the GATES when you are finished playing tennis.

Linda Hayes oversees these facilities for Stone Lakes.  If you would like to reserve a court, you can sign up on the reservation schedule inside of the courts, or just call Linda  before Sunday, and she will put your name down.  (Refer to your Stone Lakes directory for her number.)  Your pool key also grants access to the tennis courts.  Questions?  Email Linda
